US Military Academy Established

On this day in US history, the United States Military Academy was founded by Congress with the intention of training and educating young men in military science on March 16, 1802. Located in West Point, New York, most people today refer to the academy by its location (West Point). It now enrolls more than 4,000 students under the supervision of the US Army.

Reedsville Wins WIAA Basketball Tournament

This week in Wisconsin history, Reedsville High School, with an enrollment of only 87 students, won the WIAA state basketball tournament on March 16, 1946. With a population of just 476, Reedsville became the smallest community in Wisconsin history to win the (at the time) one-class tournament. They would end up winning against Eau Claire 48-39, but have not appeared in the championship since then.
