On this day in US history, 3,200 demonstrators in Alabama, led by Martin Luther King Jr., began a historic march from Selma to Montgomery on March 21, 1965. Despite many of the demonstrators being assaulted with “non-lethal” weapons and being severely beaten, they were able to make it to the Alabama State Capitol. King would then address TV cameras and a crowd of over 25,000 people who came to see the activists.
