This week in Wisconsin history, after the announcement of the start of the Spanish-American War a week prior, Wisconsin was ordered to mobilize soldiers for the war effort on April 27, 1898. The state would end up sending over 5,000 men; most would be sent to the Puerto Rico Campaign, but 134 Wisconsin soldiers would die in the war.
