On this day in US history, President Herbert Hoover signed a congressional act making “The Star-Spangled Banner,” composed by Francis Scott Key, the national anthem of the United States. While it had been widely regarded as such throughout the 19th century, it wasn’t until March 3rd of 1931 that it was signed into law.
